Okay, just now, it has hit me, it is autumn, and everything is remaining the same.
Weird.
No jeans, no scarves, no boots.... no apples, no "apple barning", no roasting ears, and hot toddies.
Weird.
No bonfires, no marshmallows, no pumpkin picking, and no leaves changing.
Weird.
No shopping, no planning, no firewood, and no apple cider.
Weird.
No crisp mornings, hot afternoons, and cold evenings
Weird.
No pumpkin lattes, or pumpkin anything.
No. Caramel. Apples.
No. Fall. Fashion.
No Christmas around the corner? Oh, wait, that still comes doesn't it?
Confession; I never drank hot toddies.
No camel toes. Hahahaha just kidding, there are tons of camel toes here. I mean really, I could open a clinic just for UTIs probably.
Since we moved here in May the weather hasn't really hit me. It has seemed like a super cool summer really. Everyone who has ever lived it the Midwest knows summers = miserable. Not here. Summers on the Northside of the island are mild, we have only had our air conditioning on 3 times, and all three times have been in the month of September, only at night, only for a few hours. The last week has been cooler, and I am told it keeps getting cooler until it settles somewhere on a daily high of 83 in the winter. I mean, this is it.
Jason and I have found the best babysitter on the island, I can say that without a doubt. Scarlett actually faked being upset when we left last night. Leah has allowed J and I to go to restaurants that are not child friendly.
Like Thirteen, where when we first got on island Scarlett went bananas, broke a dish, got us snubbed, and almost kicked out. We went without her about a month ago, much different experience, and much more welcoming.
I had sushi for the first time in 4 months, and oh my goodness, I have missed it. You would think that there would be fish all over the place here, we haven't found that to be yet, usually it is beef, chicken, and lobster. I love good sushi. We went to Buddha Sushi, we had martinis, which I don't remember tasting like koolaid, but I guess they all do now, and a ton of fish, and oh yes, seaweed salad!
I went out with girlfriends for drinks and appetizers. Like, seriously, people, I am starting to live a real life on this rock!!! GIRLFRIENDS AND ALL... and not just because of playdates! Don't get me wrong, I love my playdates, but it is really nice to have the option to throw an "F bomb" without tainting someones child.
We went to the Marriott to get out hair and nails taken care of, which we somehow parlayed into a two day staycation, if you use the spa services, you get to use the pool, I mean, hello? That is cool. Scarlett did not make it easy on the girl cutting her hair and ended up looking like she hadn't had her V-8 today, we went back, and the sweet girl trimmed it nice and straight.
We leave tomorrow for home, just Scarlett and I, Jason has too much work to do, which is so good, yet, he will be missed. Not to mention the ridiculous frolicking that will happen in every mall that I pass by. I likely will be dancing and buying things like a crazed idiot. So help me God, Discover better not call Jason and NARK me out, again, like every single time I go to Nordstrom. Bastards.
Yes, I will be shopping, and eating, and enjoying all the conveniences of the mainland, like hot. long. showers. First Stop? The Sheraton, for the longest, hottest, most wasteful shower that I have ever taken alone. Ah, who am I kidding? Starbucks.
I'm so excited to see my sisters, nieces, friends. Meet my newest NEPHEW! He has been the first one that I have not met within the first 24 hours of their life! There are downfalls to this decision, prices that are paid, and that is one of them, a big one. Then I get to see one of my chosen family say her vows, and watch our children accompany her, for this, I am truly grateful.
