Stef and Charlie arrived three days after we got home from California. Stef and I are the type of friends that you don’t have to prepare for, hell, she saw my twenties, I’ll always look like I am doing okay after witnessing that train wreck. She’s also the kind of friend that takes no warm up time, hell, she stayed in the villa next door, it felt like she’d always lived there. The girls got along famously, and we even got a few “girls days” of our own. Stef’s new best friend is coconut rum, and I am on the market for a new bestie.
The day Stef took off I headed out to grab my turkey for Thanksgiving. You never know on an island if they are going to have too many or none at all, and I had 8 big people, and 5 little people that were told they’d have a bird to eat. One of the families that were coming had never had a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and no turkey would be a fucking disaster in my book. I head to Moe’s, my favorite place, I had a line (thanks to the butcher) on an organic turkey, I got there just in time to land a 16 pound beauty, for the bargain price of $90 USD.
My mom bought a twenty dollar ham the other day and got a FREE turkey, I guess those are the perks of living not on an island. So we ate turkey, and too much food, and it was delicious, and we drank gallons of fabulous wine, and we laughed, and stayed up too late, with the warm sea air all around us, and if that’s not what Thanksgiving is about, well, it is now. We talked about why we were so grateful for the life we were living in one way, shape, or form, and we all know deep down that this is a dream, a charmed life, that few actually do.
Vegas Night. Yes, Vegas night. That was next. Jason and I decided 4 days before this black tie event that we would be attending. It is a charity for the Montessori School. This meant that Jason needed a whole Tux, or even a suit, okay, anything other than flip-flops would be a huge improvement. We left every single suit, dress shoe, anything other than beachwear in storage. I don’t think that we ever expected to stay, or to have a community to support, or to have anywhere to dress up and be seen! There is an amazing amount of events to attend, fashion shows, movie premiers, and so on. This small island is great like that, there is always something to do, and if you show up, there is a great chance you’ll know a lot of people.
We went to the only Men’s store (to my knowledge) that carries Men’s dress wear, BING, BANG, BOOM, done. It was that simple. I had already bought a dress the weekend before for “small business Saturday” and even got the shoes to go with, basically, I think that I manifested this great night just to wear my fabulous dress.
Vegas Night had delicious Indian food, plates the size of matchbooks to try to pile food onto, which was entertaining, gambling, silent auctions, raffles, dancing, booze, and plenty of friends and familiar faces. I knew there would be a wide range of ensembles, but everyone was dresses to the nines, obviously, everyones version of of perfection is different. I loved it, it’s been a really long time since Jason and I have had that kind of night, well needed, I attempted to work the word “fuck” into as many of our conversations as possible, as not to waste the opportunity, which looking back may have been a little awkward when referring to supporting the children.
This week is cookie decorating parties, birthday parties, baby showers, and something I cannot remember for Saturday, dear GOD, what am I missing? Then... a photo shoot for my island website. Are you supposed to carb load for a photo shoot? I didn’t think so! I’ll admit, I am excited to have pictures taken on these beautiful beaches, to be able to share just how happy I am to be here. We truly can be where ever we want, and that is the message I guess I really hope to send with all these shenanigans.
