Finishing off week six we finally ferried our car over to St John and spent my birthday there. It was incredible, there is not a shitty view on St John, it takes your breath every few seconds. Taking the car over there was a dream, we were so free to go from beach to beach... we discovered Cinnamon Bay, a calm, baking flour soft white sand, easy going, beauty. I loved it. We left there and drove around for a few hours to let Scarlett have a quality car nap, and then went shopping at Mongoose Junction, one of my favorite shopping places in the islands, there we had pizza, chips and guac, key lime pie, and a lime colada...
Meanwhile... all my lovely friends/family are blowing up my facebook, phone, voicemail, and email with the most beautiful birthday wishes. I am humbled by all the people that love me, that I love, truly, with everything that I am. You are life to me, and I cannot express my gratitude with words... and interpretive dance seems to get weird, fast.
Scarlett and I finally bit the bullet and went down to the playground to check things out. I think I hate parks, but that is beside the point. This one was good enough, she was Elsa, I was Anna. The garbage cans were over flowing, and the goat farm that we were downwind from put an extra gag-factor in our Frozen remake. How can I love goat cheese so much and be so repulsed by it's creator?
Friday night we went to "Family night" at Yacht Haven, so many nice people, so many kids for Scarlett to play with, or reject with a fierceness that most save for muggings. Every single time we go we meet someone who is nice, and informative. This time, we met a couple who told us about "King of the Wing", a charity event that is a contest for who makes the best chicken wing, at Magen's Bay. Chicken wings on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world???? That's a no brainer.
Now, my fear was it was going to resemble the farmers market that we have experienced. A one man band with a one string guitar, if you you know what I am saying... Ummmm, this was an EVENT! A HUGE EVENT... Probably 40 chicken wing vendors, all wanting you to experience the winner, music blaring, beer flowing, kids running barefoot, people laughing, full on beach party. I loved it. There is nothing, NOTHING, in this world that I love more than a beach party. Was it icing on the cake that I got to eat chicken wings in my bathing suit without fear of getting it everywhere? yes, I have to say... I loved it... everyone was covered in bbq sauce... and no one cared, and when your fingers get too sticky, you just go in the ocean. I belong here.
Not gonna lie, there is something weird about being so far away from people. A clarity in the distance. The love and anything that isn't love is so crystal clear. Maybe it is because I am so far, I have nothing to lose or gain, so maybe the love is pure, without the everyday life distractions or complications. I'm not sure what it is, but it is a new shoe, and I am breaking it in. It seems like the miles clear away all the ego details, and only the love is left, the big picture. This journey is very revealing, both in who I really am, and who my people are.
Did you know scorpions could hang on ceilings? I didn't either.
Elvis, our monthly exterminator, not Lionel, he is the "big boss", came this morning and I told him that I saw a SCORPION on my ceiling, he looked up in fear, not a good sign, and when I told him I was totally freaked out, he agreed that he would have been too. THIS IS NOT THE REACTION THAT I LOOK FOR FROM AN EXTERMINATOR. He went on to reassure me that he thinks it's because this place hadn't been treated in so long and believes that this will come to a halt very soon. 2 scorpions in a month and a half is unheard of. Why do I insist on being the exception to every rule? Why?
Ceiling Scorpion--- Death by flipflop.... in front of 2 year old.... "Honey, sometimes Mommy has to kill things, just close your eyes, and go to sleep now, everything will be okay".... I wouldn't buy it.... What a confusing world we live in.
I cooked a vegan meal for my neighbor this weekend! I get a little jumpy when cheese is not an option.... I mean... cream cheese still counts? No? Deep breathing... it turned out fantastic... grilled portobellos, grilled onions, grilled red peppers... HEY, wait a second, Jason cooked the meal, he is the griller. I guess I plated a vegan meal! We had a wonderful time, wine is vegan, and all was wonderful. We love our neighbors.
May write more again this week... Maybe not.
